what are 3D Gaussians? They are a generalization of 1D Gaussians (the bell curve) to 3D. Essentially they are ellipsoids in 3D space, with a center, a scale, a rotation, and “softened edges”.
Each 3D Gaussian is optimized along with a (viewdependant) color and opacity. When blended together, here’s the visualization of the full model, rendered from ANY angle. As you can see, 3D Gaussian Splatting captures extremely well the fuzzy and soft nature of the plush toy, something that photogrammetry-based methods struggle to do.

While OpenAI and ChatGPT opened up to a wild start and had a record-breaking number of sign-ups in its initial days, it has steadily seen its user base decline over the last couple of months. According to SimilarWeb, July 2023 saw its user base drop by 12 per cent compared to June – it went from 1.7 billion users to 1.5 billion users. Do note that this data only shows users who visited the ChatGPT website, and does not account for users who are using OpenAI’s APIs

OpenAI and Stack Overflow’s recent partnership announcement has raised concerns for some users that their data is being used without permission. Some users who wanted to delete their answers have had their accounts suspended. The site does not generally allow the deletion of posts if the questions have any answers. Stack Overflow moderators say that it doesn’t allow users to remove posts as they hurt the company as a whole. While the GDPR gives users in the EU the right to be forgotten, websites have a right not to delete data if it doesn’t contain identifiable information to prevent the flow of a topic or question from being disrupted.
